Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lectures will be held in German.

It discusses topics, which will be deepened in various modules throughout the study programme: colonialism/post-colonialism, globalisation and migration, tourism, economic processes, material culture and consumption, nature and environment, social organisation and kinship, ritual and myth, religion and world views, media and communication technologies, visual culture and film.
Each session includes a topic related introduction to key questions, theoretical concepts and selected case studies. Special attention is given to the interconnections between different topics as well as specific regional contexts (especially Latin and North America, South Asia and North Africa).
The lecture provides an overview of the thematic spectrum of social and cultural anthropology; it provides basic knowledge and orientation for new students as well as competences about the discipline's current research fields.
