Aims, contents and method of the course

The Course presents film examples from South Africa for discussion (especially on Kruger National Park, and Hluhluwe-iMfolozi National Park, the Madikwe, Tembe, Kwandwe Game Reserves, the Wetland Park of iSimangaliso, and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Parks), Botswana (especially the Central Kalahari Game Reserve), Namibia (especially the Community Conservancies), as well as comparisons to West and Central Africa (especially Gabun). The main focus lies on the perspectives of empowerment, participation, social transformation and discourse ethics. They are to be critically debated on the basis of the conservation literature.

Assessment and permitted materials

1. Group Presentations of key conservation problems and questions of environmental justice

2. Powerpoint PrŠsentationen on the films uploaded on Moodle against the backdrop of the literature.

Bzw. alternativ: Active Participation in online discussions and/or hybrid teaching sessions and Seminar-Paper of 12 pages including literature
