Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Ethnohistory as a theory and method developed in Vienna. The cooperation between ethnology and history has always been of central importance here and it was here that the main impulses for this cooperation originated. Based on the fundamental concepts and theoretical considerations, the course discusses the essential elements of ethnohistorical work within ethnology and cultural and social anthropology. In particular, the importance of ethnohistory for a critical view of the present and the social challenges of the future will be the focus of the course. The aim is to explore whether and how ethnohistory can develop relevance in the 21st century and provide answers to pressing socio-political questions.

Assessment and permitted materials

The evaluation is based on a point system: 16 points are awarded. 0-8 points = insufficient; 9-10 points = sufficient; 11-12 points = satisfactory; 13-14 points = good; 15-16 points = very good.
