Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this lecture, the double meaning of locating racisms will be elaborated by looking at where the respective racisms come from, but also where and how they appear. In this context, the genealogies of racism - from physical to cultural racism in different societies and contexts - play a key role.
Case studies are:
- What racist state media in China spread about Africans and why?
- The impoverishment of the Maya in Guatemala and the connection to globalisation
- Right-wing extremism in Russia and instrumentalisation for the election campaign
- The emigration of highly qualified, Turkish-speaking workers from Austria due to anti-Muslim racism.
- and much more.

Learning objectives
- The students deal with the regionally and historically diversified genesis of racisms and culturalisms on the basis of case studies in various countries and regions of the world.
- In doing so, the students deepen their theoretical knowledge on the topic of racism and discrimination.

Through the lectures, the students gain an insight into racisms with different regional effects, their theoretical backgrounds and culturally relevant effects.
