Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The subject of ethnology, or cultural and social anthropology, has been closely involved with the study of indigenous religious ideas from its inception. Whether they were called "natural religions (as opposed to high religions), "root religions," or "ethnic religions," they all attracted the interest of researchers because these religious ideas had significance for almost all areas of the lives of the people studied. On the basis of "classics", the first part of the lecture seminar will focus on the central themes of ethnoreligion. In a second part, critical conclusions and interpretations will be examined in the context of selected partial aspects. For this purpose, the participating students have to give short presentations, which form the basis for the discussion in each case. the aim is that at the end the students know the most important topics, terminologies and main theories of religious anthropology.
