Requirements for a Positive Assessment:Attendance at all sessions: It is required that students attend all scheduled sessions. Absences may only be accepted in exceptional cases and with appropriate justification.
Reading of mandatory texts: All assigned mandatory texts must be read and understood. This will be monitored through regular discussions in class.
Collaborative work: Active participation in group work and constructive collaboration with team members are expected. This includes both the quality of contributions and the ability to work as a team.
Grading is often based on a point system:
Sehr gut (1): 90-100 Punkte
Gut (2): 80-89 Punkte
Befriedigend (3): 70-79 Punkte
Genügend (4): 60-69 Punkte
Nicht Genügend (5): unter 60 Punkte

Examination topics
Participants will be asked to write essays on specific topics to demonstrate their understanding and ability for critical analysis. Participants will conduct ethnographic observations in various spaces and document their findings. Development and performance of short performative scenes based on ethnographic data. These scenes will be evaluated based on creativity, accuracy of data translation, and teamwork. Collaborative development and presentation of performative projects. The evaluation will consider the quality of collaboration, originality, and the implementation of ethnographic data. Run-through of the developed performances with subsequent feedback rounds. This allows for formative assessment and improvement of the projects. Performance of the developed pieces in front of an audience. Discussion and feedback on the entire course and individual projects through written reflections or oral presentations.

The participants should develop a deep understanding of applied anthropology and ethnographic methods, thereby learning to creatively translate ethnographic data into performative/theatrical formats. In doing so, they develop the ability to represent ethnographic research through theater and performance. Additionally, specific forms of communication such as storytelling, improvisation, forum theater, teamwork, and collaborative creative processes are promoted.Content:Definition and significance of applied anthropology.
Overview of ethnographic methods and their application.
Theoretical foundations and examples of the ethnography of performance.
Case studies and analysis of performative ethnographic projects.
Techniques for translating ethnographic data into performative formats.
Practical exercises and development of own performative projects.
Method:
Theoretical input: Lectures and discussions on the basics of applied anthropology, theater anthropology, and ethnographic methods. Analysis and discussion of case studies and examples from literature.Practical exercises: Ethnographic observation and interview techniques: Exercises in various public spaces and interviews with participants or guests. Improvisation: Movement and improvisation exercises to explore non-verbal communication and specific meanings.Creative implementation: Ethnographic sketches: Development of short performative scenes based on ethnographic data. Group work: Collaborative development and refinement of performative projects.Presentation and reflection: Dress rehearsals: Run-through of the developed performances with feedback rounds. Final presentation: Performance of the developed projects before an audience. Reflection round: Discussion and feedback on the entire course and the individual projects.
