Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course is to provide a solid introduction to this topic from its historic to present day complexities. It is to engage the students into critical deconstruction of the terms 'development' and 'cooperation' as they apply to IPs. It is designed as a practical, preparatory course, geared towards actual work in the field. Through their independent research and analysis, the students should take away the up-to-date state of discourse and current theories. They should become familiar with on-the-ground issues and the range of relevant actors. By course end, I wish to have instilled a deeper knowledge of this topic and cultivated their analysis of multifaceted examples. My primary teaching goal is to instill in students with an interest in development cooperation and deepen understanding of the complexity of the issues as they impact IPs.This lecture-seminar is designed to be highly interactive with a combination of lectures and the most relevant and current AV materials, especially highlighting IPs own voices. Each student will produce a short oral presentation (with PowerPoint), based on self-selected suggested topics or self-choice. They will engage in their own independent research and analysis and learn from each other’s presentation. Students will produce an accompanying short position paper. For their work they will be directed to key publications, websites, databases, etc. I will provide students with individual feedback on both their oral presentations and position papers.
