Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course will be divided into four sections:
1) Introduction (overview, forms, actors and institutions of development policy).
2) History (from the 1950s until today)
3) Specialised discussions (e.g. intersectionality, sustainability, post-development)
4) Practice of development policy

Method: discussion of weekly basic texts, presentations, co-moderation. The first unit will take place online in Collaborate. After that, we will try to switch to hybrid teaching. I would like to form two groups that should meet with me in turn in seminar room 6, Kolingasse 14-16. The other group will always meet simultaneously in an online tutorial where the same basic texts will be discussed. The reason for this is the currently insufficient number of people allowed in seminar room 6 (Kolingasse). The maximum permissible number for this seminar room has not yet been announced (as of 14.9.2021).

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation, weekly essays (650 words each).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

No exams. Submission of at least 10 essays on basic texts.

As a prerequisite for participation in this course, we expect basic knowledge in the field of development studies. This knowledge is taught within the framework of the AG (EC-EF2) Introduction to International Development. The AG should therefore be completed in any case before participating in a GM2 course.

Examination topics

No exams. Submission of at least 10 essays on basic texts.

Reading list

Detailed information on relevant literature will be made available to the participants on the learning platform and supplemented during the semester.
