Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is to critically analyse and discuss fundamental topics of development policy and development cooperation (DC) with the help of texts. The course is designed to support participants in developing independent analytical skills. In this sense, the active participation of the students, for example by taking part in the text discussions, is an essential part of the course.
Course content includes the history of international development policy and development cooperation since the Second World War, institutions and actors in international development policy and development cooperation, the practice of development cooperation as well as relevant topics such as gender and the environment and their relationship to the development debate.
These topics are critically analysed and discussed on the basis of texts.

Assessment and permitted materials

Weekly attendance, active participation in the text discussions, weekly written text discussions (entries in a reading diary). Writing a short final paper: reflection on the topics of the course based on a given text.
