Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

"The daily grind of workaday life, the dullness and monotony of daily routine, the normal course of life" ... but what actually is 'everday life'?
This seminar explores the notion of 'everyday' from 'non-dull' angles, discusses diverse philosophical and socio-political approaches and investigates selected anthropological theories and practises related to the topic.

Assessment and permitted materials

Participation, performance, intense reading and discussion, presentations and at the end of term a paper has to be handed in.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The aim of the seminar is the introduction to theoretical and methodological tools to a key realm in anthropological work and to enable the participants to conduct further independant research.

Examination topics

Based on a general introduction to the notion of everyday life the course works in a combination of impuls lectures, selected readings and, most of all, lively discourse of all participants; all possible and useful media will be used. A reading list will be handed out at the beginning of the course.
