Aims, contents and method of the course
This course deals with qualitative methods of empirical social research, which can be used to answer questions and uncover new themes that cannot be not effectively dealt with through the use of quantitative methods and analyses. It includes an array of examples to show how qualitative methods of empirical social research has been used to successfully test theories and provide a deep understanding of humanitarian and development actors.
Assessment and permitted materials
Regular attendance, readings and short writing assignments (ca. 1 page), (group)presentation, final paper (ca. 6 pages)
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
¾ active attendance (10%), reading and writing assignments (30%), 1 (group) presentation (20%), 1 short paper (40%)
