Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is basic knowledge of terms, approaches and topics in Gender Studies. Students bring in their interests and everyday experiences, work on them according to their own ideas and get to know gender-oriented categories of analysis and theories. This should enable them to expand and contextualise their own observations around gender and to reflect on the interaction with other relations of domination. Special emphasis is placed on discussing gender and gender relations from different theoretical and political perspectives and reflecting on the existing plurality of feminisms.

Method: Work is done in small groups and joint discussions. The participants can and should contribute their own methods for the presentations. No previous knowledge is necessary. The students themselves decide how they would like to present the chosen contents in the course and can use their own methods of communication in their contribution. The results of their work are then discussed and theoretically contextualised by the teacher. In the last unit, open questions are clarified and an attempt is made to connect the topics dealt with.

Assessment and permitted materials

The course is exam-immanent. The preparation of a small group presentation including a handout, the writing of topic-related commentaries, participation in discussions, and the final essay serve as the basis for assessment.

Attendance at the first unit is required for binding registration. Minimum attendance of 80% of the time, assessment standard: .
