Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The purpose of this course is to provide participants with an overview of processes of social construction of identities, collective production of meaning, othering, and identity-based politics, and will introduce them diverse theories and analytical tools applied in the study of identity and belonging, from symbolic interactionism to intersectionality analysis.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular attendance, active participation in class discussions, group presentation of a selected reading, a reading and writing assignment, and written final assignment.

Attendance and active participation 10% of the final grade
Reading and writing assignment 25% of the final grade
Presentation 25% of the final grade
Final paper 40% of the final grade
