Students should become familiar with different concepts of critique and, in particular, with (queer-feminist) critique of science. They should gain a better understanding of the relationship between theory and practice as well as the conditions and processes of knowledge production, especially in gender studies. Against this background, they should learn to critically question academic practice in gender studies as well as their own academic working methods in order to promote their academic (self-)reflexivity.Contents:
Based on the discussion of the concept of critique, the seminar offers an introduction to the critique of science articulated in the gender studies. Students will also reflect on established academic practice in gender studies and their own academic working methods. They deal with structural aspects of knowledge production, scientific norms (e.g. peer review procedures, epistemology, ethics) and the institutionalization of gender studies (e.g. publication organs, conferences). The focus of the seminar is therefore not on learning the techniques of academic work, but on its critical reflection. Methods:
Discussion, working groups, presentations, research, conducting and evaluating interviews, written reflection on own scientific practice.
