Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Content/Objective
Gender studies inquire into the meaning of gender for society, culture, and the sciences. They do not presuppose a fixed concept of gender, but examine how such a concept is produced in each of the various contexts, what meaning is attributed to it, and what effects it has on the distribution of political power, social structures, and the production of knowledge, culture, and art. The aim of the lecture is thus to become acquainted with different approaches to the analysis, representation and critique of gender relations in philosophical, social, humanities and cultural studies perspectives and to learn to reflect on the corresponding knowledge. The lecture is intended to create a basis for you to be able to deal with topics, texts, theories, findings and controversies in the field of women* and gender studies in an stand-alone academic way.

Method/Didactics
The lecture will take place in the summer semester 2023, as announced in the course outline, in presence until further notice. The lecturers will use various means to convey the course content (PowerPoint presentations, videos, etc.). Learning materials and further information are available on the Moodle platform (see below). Time will be allocated for discussion.

Tutorial
Tutor Emma Lakkala will provide additional enrichment to the course. It is available for students to deepen their knowledge, to exchange content and also personal information.

Moodle platform
All relevant information about the course as well as the teaching materials used in the lecture (e.g. PowerPoint presentations, notes, etc.) are available on the Moodle platform. Likewise, literature is available in the form of PDFs or links. In addition, there is a dedicated student space where students can independently make information available to lecture participants. In the question and discussion form, questions and discussion contributions can be deposited for use among the students.
