Classes (iCal) - next class is marked with N

The presence in the first unit is necessary to keep the place. Places are allocated according to the points set - the lecturer has no influence on this and cannot provide any information about it: Please contact the ÖH as student representative in this regard.

The exercise is planned in presence and takes place in a very small, low, difficult to ventilate room. Depending on the number of infections, individual dates will therefore be held online - Meike Lauggas will inform the students about this in good time. Without the possibility to participate (in single) face-to-face sessions, a positive completion of the course is not possible.
The course will NOT be held hybrid (online parallel to in presence).

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is a basic knowledge of terms, approaches and topics in Gender Studies. Students bring in their interests and everyday experiences, work on them according to their own ideas and get to know gender-oriented categories of analysis and theories. This should enable them to expand their own experiences and observations to include views on gender and other categories of difference such as ableism, racism, homophobia, classicism, anti-Semitism and to reflect on these intersectionally within power contexts. Methodologically, own discussion behaviour and possibilities within the course are continuously included in these analyses.

Methods: Work is done in small groups and joint discussions as well as with the methods introduced by the students (in German and/or English). Contributions to the discussion can be made in any language and only then translated into German or English. In case of structural or personal barriers, disadvantage compensation is possible.
Students decide for themselves how they want to work on the content they have chosen themselves in the course and are allowed to determine or develop their own methods in their contribution. The results of the work are then discussed in the large group and theoretically contextualised by the lecturer. The course of the discussion and all working materials are saved, updated with each appointment, linked together and made accessible on the Moodle learning platform. In the last unit, open questions are clarified and the up brought topics are connected with each other.

Assessment and permitted materials

The course is exam-immanent. The basis for assessment is the preparation of a small group presentation including a handout, active participation in the small and group discussions (spoken/written), a group comment as well as reflection of own experiences and observations in the form of an essay (in German and/or English).
The performance for the course must meet the scientific criteria of the subject.

Disadvantage compensation is possible in the case of structural or personal barriers.
