Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this course, we will learn about and discuss a selection of key topics and case studies of anthropological research in Indonesia. They will deal with the ecological, socio-economic and cultural diversity of the archipelago as well as the diversity of anthropological research approaches, concepts and questions. Students without prior regional specific knowledge will gain an insight into the anthropology of Southeast Asia; students with prior knowledge will be encouraged to expand and deepen it.
The course units will be equally diverse by applying a mix of methods: lectures, reading and group work will form the basis. External lecturers (e.g. a teacher and two PhD students from the Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta/Indonesia) will make valuable contributions to the programme.
