Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Older theories of the state largely considered the latter in the context of nation-building, as a ‘super’ ethnic group. Yet, processes of globalization, and particularly though not exclusively of migration, as well as different approaches invite for considering the state within new frameworks of analysis.
Methodological aspects:
a) Students centred; strongly interactive
b) Training in writing scholarly papers
c) Training in presentation of findings.

Assessment and permitted materials

- Active participation in discussions: 30%
- Final presentation: 20%
- Final Paper 50%

Final Paper: 50%
1) Production of a Paper (3.000 to 4.000 words per student, incl. footnotes and bibliography
2) Literature work: 30%
3) Structure: 35%
4) Argument: 35%

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

c) Max. missing 1 time;
d) No missing during final presentations
e) Each of the activities (active participation; final paper and final presentation) have to be accomplished in a positive way.
