Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This seminar explores notions of belonging and of dwelling in the conceptualizations and practices of the lifeworlds of selected Diaspora societies. Based on exemplary cross-cultural field-studies the seminar will also critically examine different anthropological approaches and ways of understanding the social phenomena.

Assessment and permitted materials

Marking is based on active participation including discussion and short written work (30%), 10 min. presentation (35%), and final paper (35%).
Closing date for final paper delivery: 25.04.2016.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The seminar's goal is providing theoretical-methodological knowledge to enable participants to gain insight and competences for independant further work in the relevant topic areas.

Examination topics

Apart from some introductory input lectures the seminar is based on intense communication, open discussion, active contribution and group work of all participants, using literature and multi-media materials.
The seminar is conducted in English.

Reading list

The online-platform, basic relevant literature and other materials will be presented at the beginning of the seminar and further developed by the participants.
