Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Content: In this course we will carry out two activities. In the first part, educational articles about using technology in teaching mathematics will be summarized and presented by students. In the second part, students will create GeoGebra-Applets for various topics of school mathematics, and demonstrate possible uses of these applets to their fellow students by performing 30-minute teaching sequences.

Aims: Learning about various aspects of using technology in mathematics teaching. Aquiring competences to create electronic teaching materials, and to use these materials in practical teaching.

Methods: group work, presentation, discussion

Assessment and permitted materials

The assessment is based on the presentation, the uploaded GeoGebra-Applets, the performed teaching sequence, and the regular active participation.

Update 11.3.2020: The presentation is to be recorded by the presenting students as a video clip, uploaded onto Moodle, and watched by the other students.

Update 3.4.2020: The teaching sequence is to be presented in BigBlueButton via Moodle, the active participation refers to the participation in the BigBlueButton-Session.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirements for a positive assessment:
*) Giving a presentation
*) Uploading the GeoGebra-Applets
*) Performing a 30-minute teaching sequence
*) Regular active attendance and participation in the discussions

Update 11.3.2020: The presentation is to be recorded by the presenting students and uploaded onto Moodle.

Update 3.4.2020: The teaching sequence is not to be performed "as in the classroom", but as a presentation. This presentation is done by the group members without a physical meeting in BigBlueButton. The duration of this presentation is not prescribed. The regular active attendance refers to the participation in the BigBlueButton-Sessions and watching the video clips.

Assessment criteria:
*) seminar presentation (25 %)
*) presentation of teaching sequence (25 %)
*) GeoGebra-Applets (30 %)
*) regular participation in discussions (20 %)

Examination topics

Preparation and presentation of a seminar lecture, based on specified literature (eventually to be supplemented by the students); creation of GeoGebra-Applets to specified topics of school mathematics; performing a 30-minute teaching sequence to demonstrate possible uses of the self-created applets; discussion, reflection and feedback about content and performance of the presentation.

Update 3.4.2020: The teaching sequence is not to be performed, but to be presented as a talk.
