sciences since they are essential to describe many phenomena in nature
(e.g. diffusion, waves, vibrations etc.). Motivated by such questions but
also by problems from geometry, biology etc. grew a rich multifaceted
field of research with close connections to other parts of mathematics
(so in particular with functional analysis).In the courses PDEs 1 and 2 an introduction into PDEs is presented.
In Part 1 PDEs of 1st order and linear PDEs of 2nd order are treated. The
central topics will be the Poisson equation (resp. Laplace equation), heat
equation and the wave equation. Thereby in particular the following
problems are treated: existence and uniqueness of solutions, boundary
value problem, initial value problem, Cauchy-problem.
