Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Content: In this course we want to discuss about real applications (as opposed to pseudo-real contexts) of mathematics in everyday life and work situations. To that end, we shall on the one hand analyze existing word problems in text books with respect to their reality, on the other hand create and present word problems describing real applications.Aims: Being able to analyze word problems with respect to given and self-developed criteria, being able to create and present real-life-application tasks to given topics. Methods: group work, presentation, discussion
Assessment and permitted materials
The assessment is based on the presentation, the uploaded self-developed word problems, and the regular active participation.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Minimum requirements for a positive assessment:
*) Giving a 60-minute presentation of the analysis and the self-developed word problems in groups
*) Uploading the self-developed word problems in Moodle
*) Regular active participationAssessment criteria:
*) analysis of existing word problems (30 %)
*) self-developed word problems (50 %)
*) regular participation in discussions (20 %)
