ATTENTION! If you want to take part in this course, you have to register for it from August 31 to September 13 at UNIVIS! Without registration you can not participate in this course! The order of registration is not important for acceptance into the course. Should there be more applicants than available places, the places will be assigned randomly. Students who have officially finished the first part of the mathematics teaching curriculum will have preference! Non-accepted students will be put on a waiting list. For details see http://ssc-mathematik.univie.ac.at/betreute-studien/diplomstudium-unterrichtsfach-mathematik-auslaufend-kein-neueinstieg-moeglich/anmeldemodus-zu-lehrveranstaltungen/ . If an accepted student does not appear at the preparatory meeting, he/she will be deleted from the list of participants, and the free spaces will given to the attending students from the waiting list, so it is important that you come to the preparatory meeting on time! (Tuesday October 6, 2015, 11:30, Seminar room 12, Oskar-Morgenstern-Platz 1, 2nd floor)!

Aims, contents and method of the course
We want to discuss the "Handbuch der Mathematikdidaktik" ("Handbook of Mathematics Education") (in extracts). In this book mathematics education is presented as science of teaching and learning mathematics. These chapters are included: mathematics as topos of education, mathematics as teaching and learning content, mathematics as processes of thinking, mathematics in the instruction process, mathematics didactics as matter of research.
These keywords show that we will discuss not only themes which are relevant for practically teaching but also issues from a theoretical point of view.

Assessment and permitted materials
Presentation: content and performance; collaboration (including presence).
The talk determines mainly the assessment. If the result is not clear, the participation in the discussion of presentations of other students will be used.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
To get to know mathematics education as a research discipline and learning to derive practical use for the future teaching from theoretical concepts.
Examination topics
The participants present sections of the handbook. In case of a small number of participants it will be possible to prepare parts of the presentation during the seminar. So I could give feedback to the students immediately.
