Aims, contents and method of the course

Preparation for a competent planning of arithmetic and algebraic topics of school mathematics mainly at secondary level one.

Based on concrete exercises to calculate something but also with some little projects we want to deepen our competence in teaching arithmetics and algebra in school. The treated themes will be closely connected to the contents of the related lecture, of course.

Nevertheless, mathematics can only be understood by self-doing. The tutorial is designed for this sense. The content of the related lecture should be reflected functionally and didactically by discussing concrete exercises. The results of the solved exercises will be presented by the students at the blackboard.

Working self-dependently on given exercises or projects, presentation to the plenum.

Assessment and permitted materials

Evaluation of the presentations and of other collaboration or dedications. This means also an obligatory check of the students' presence.

Notes, presentation of solutions and evaluations with technology.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

It is necessary to cross two-thirds of the exercises for solved to pass this course. Furthermore, you need two presentations of solutions at the blackboard at least. Moreover, you have to participate on the discussions about the items in the course. For the evaluation the presentation is most important, the other components will decide if the main assesment is valid to two different grades.

Compulsory attendance.

Aims, contents and method of the course

Content: Tasks in arithmetic and algebra that the students have to prepare independently, and present and as discuss during the lecture.

Aims: To strengthen the understanding of school-relevant content of arithmetic and algebra that is communicated in the main lecture by working on concrete tasks. To discuss about the role and use of tasks in teaching mathematics.

Assessment and permitted materials

Each week there is a list in moodle announcing the tasks that are going to be discussed in the next unit. Students can mark which tasks they have prepared until 1 hour before the lecture. There will be an (approximately equally distributed) mixture of voluntary and mandatory presentations of tasks at the blackboard. Students have to be prepared to be called to present one of the tasks that they have marked in Moodle at any time.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirements for a positive assessment:
*) Marking at least 2/3 of the tasks, and
*) present at least 1 task per semester at the blackboard.

Assessment criteria:
For each marked task the student will be given 12 points. If the tasks consists of several parts, each part can be marked separately. For each successful presentation of a task at the blackboard that is in addition to the one minimum presentation, the student will be given a maximum of 50 bonus points (depending on the extent and quality of the presentation). If P is the percentage of achieved points (and if the above-mentioned minimum requirements are fulfilled), the grade is calculated as follows:
0 < P ≤ 66 % Nicht genügend (5)
66 % < P ≤ 74 % Genügend (4)
74 % < P ≤ 83 % Befriedigend (3)
83 % < P ≤ 92 % Gut (2)
92 % < P ≤ 100 % Sehr gut (1)
