Aims, contents and method of the course

Theoretical and programming problems pertaining to Prof. Neumaier's lecture should be solved by the students outside classtime and will be dealt with in class afterwards. The class will start with an introduction to MATLAB; the aim of the first problems is to get to know MATLAB and they can therefore be dealt with independently of the lecture.

Assessment and permitted materials

Contributions during the class, particularly the presentation of the solutions to the exercises (prepared outside the classroom); possibly a final programming project (one of a list of more extensive exercises that are dealt with in groups up to 4 people). The grade will be based on the quantity and quality of the presentations and participation in class and the quality of the final programming project.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Obtaining skills in MATLAB programming and a better insight into the methods and algorithms of numerical analysis

Examination topics

Programming in MATLAB and theoretical problems
