Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Knowledge of basic concepts and methods of information theory.

Information theory goes back to Claude Shannon and studies the question of how to transmit data over communication channels without loss of information. This requires a mathematical definition of concepts such as information or channel capacity and leads to a beautiful and powerful theory at the interesction of mathematics, statistics and electrical engineering.
