Aims, contents and method of the course
We discuss in detail the analytic and functional analytic foundations of the theory of pseudodifferential operators on smooth manifolds. Such operators can be considered as generalized partial differential operators and include, for example, parametrices (i.e., approximate inverses modulo smooth contributions) of elliptic operators.As prerequisites a solid knowledge of functional analysis and distribution theory is indispensable; special preparatory topics, such as the 'kernel theorem' and 'oscillatory integral', can be reviewed within the first few sessions.
