Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Aim: The book "Teaching mathematics in an understandable way. Perspectives for teaching and teacher training", edited by Henrike Allmendinger, Katja Lengnink, Andreas Vohns and Gabriele Wickel, should be discussed. Students at school and prospective teachers at the university often experience learning mathematics as little oriented towards understanding. The mastery of procedures and techniques dominates the education, the meaning and importance of mathematical concept formation is rarely discussed. For those who want to teach mathematics in an understandable way, mathematical objects and their relationship to people must (again) become objects of an exciting search.Content: In this anthology, mathematics is surveyed, questioned and analyzed by subject didactics, mathematicians and practicing teachers. The authors use concrete examples to illustrate the extent to which understanding-oriented teaching and learning processes can be developed by discussing mathematics and its relationship to people in this way. The individual contributions on school lessons and teacher training contain suggestions for understanding-oriented lessons in schools and teacher training.Contributions to school lessons: comprehension and structure-oriented practice with fractions - interpreting and exploring functions - teaching stochastics in an understandable way - teaching analysis and linear algebra in an understandable way, using the example of the logarithm, the derivative and the vectors.Contributions to teacher training: Mathematics teacher training relaunched - Approaches to teacher training in primary and secondary school - Networking mathematical and didactic knowledge - The benefits and disadvantages of the history of mathematics for teacher training.Method: Preparation of individual sections, also under the guidance of the lecture leader, presentation in plenary, discussion and reflection on certain topics in groups and in plenary. Depending on the possibilities, the seminar takes place online or as a face-to-face event.
Assessment and permitted materials
Oral: Assessment of the seminar lectures and the contributions to the discussions in the seminar sessions.Permitted materials: Presentation documents, subject didactic articles.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Presentation: Content and Performance; Collaboration (including attendance). The lecture mainly determines the assessment. If the result is not clear, the participation will be used in the discussions of the presentations of other participants.Compulsory attendance.
Examination topics
Derives from the selected presentation topics.
