Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar is based on the book ‘Grundlagen der Mathematikdidaktik. Eine Einführung für den Unterricht in der Sekundarstufe’ by Kristina Reiss and Christoph Hammer [in German], the second edition of which was published by Birkhäuser Verlag in 2021. From the content:

Goals of maths teaching
Teaching mathematics
The development of mathematical thinking
Individual prerequisites for learning in the school context
Basic patterns of working in mathematics
Didactic principles
Educational standards and competences
Tasks in maths lessons
Errors and error diagnosis
Planning maths lessons

The aim of the course is to deepen and broaden the lecture ‘Introduction to Subject Didactics’ from the winter semester 2024/25 in order to independently deal with subject didactic competences.

Individual chapters of the book will be discussed by the participants, using appropriate additional literature. It is important to involve the other seminar participants, i.e. no frontal lectures.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment: Assessment of the seminar lectures and the contributions to the discussions in the seminar sessions.

Permitted materials: Presentation documents (slides, handouts), subject didactics articles.
