Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This is a continuation of the lecture course Algebraic Topology from last semester. It will cover the following topics: Singular homology
and cohomology, Poincare duality, topological K-theory, Bott Periodicity as well as characteristic classes.

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The aim is to understand the concepts, methods and results and to be able to sucessfully apply them.

Examination topics

Algebraic Topology studies topological spaces and continuous maps by associating algebraic objects (eg. groups, rings, or algebras) to spaces,
and homomorphisms to continuous maps. These assignements are functorial, particularely, homeomorphic spaces correspond to isomorphic algebraic objects. An analysis of the algebraic situation often leads to results about topological spaces and continuous maps.
