Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

We will study Chern-Weil theory, ie. the geometric construction of characteristic classes. Particularly, we will treat Chern classes, Pontryagin classes and the Euler class and discuss a famous result of
Chern-Gauss-Bonnet. Some knowledge about differential geometry (lecture course) will certainly be necessary in order to follow the seminar.

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The aim is to understand the concepts, methods and results and to be able to communicate them in an understandable way.
