Aims, contents and method of the course
The course "The Nation-State as a Basic Unit for the Protection of Human Rights and the Principle of Subsidiarity" will explore the history of the nation state and its (still utmost) importance for the guarantee and the protection of human rights, as well as the importance of human rights for a nation state; and it will explain the principle of subsidiarity according to which issues should be dealt with at the most immediate (national, regional or local) level and as close to the people as possible. Linked to these topics, the course will also offer the possibility to examine the question of democracy and human rights. Participants will deepen their knowledge through lectures, presentations and group work as well as engage in discussion with their lecturers and peers.
