Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture gives an introduction for students of all levels to the electronic properties of materials. Starting from the energetic levels in a single atom those in a material will be described with a special focus on the situation in semiconductors. Phenomena like electric conduction (Drude model), scattering of electrons, galvanomagnetic effects like Hall effect, magneto-resistance, thermoelectric effects (thermocouple, Peltier-cooling) and many other effects will be discussed.

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral examination, any time upon agreement

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The lecture gives an introduction to the electronic properties of materials for students of all levels and intends thereby to give a basis for more specialized lectures in this field.

Examination topics

The lecture will be held in the traditional way and references will be given for more informations.

Reading list

K. Seeger, Introduction to Semiconductor Physics and Ch. Kittel, Introduction to Solid State Physics.
