Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Objectives: Learning the methods of relativistic quantum field theory and applying them to the standard model of particle physics.

Content: Why quantum field theory? Canonical quantization of a scalar field, functional integral, perturbative expansion, scattering matrix, LSZ formalism, cross section, decay rate, canonical quantization of the Dirac field, fermionic functional integral, massive vector field, abelian gauge field, spinor QED at tree and one-loop level, anomalous magnetic moment of the electron, nonabelian gauge fields, quantization of nonabelian gauge theories, spontaneous breaking of global and local gauge symmetries, standard model of particle physics (electroweak and strong interactions), renormalization group, extensions of the standard model.

Method: Ex-cathedra teaching.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam (90 minutes) with theoretical questions and computational problems.

No auxiliary tools permitted.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimal requirement for a positive grade: 50% of the total number of points.

Less than 50%: 5
At least 50%, but less than 65%: 4
At least 65%, but less than 80%: 3
At least 80%, but less than 90%: 2
At least 90%: 1
