Aims, contents and method of the course

Learning about data documenting the origin of gender inequities
Theoretical perspectives on gender and diversity in physics and chemistry classrooms
Gathering practical knowledge in identifying the various forms of doing difference (observational fieldstudies )
Adapting a learning environment in the context of sustainability according to the three steps of construction, reconstruction and deconstruction
Testing and evaluating the learning environment in an upper Grammar School Classroom

Assessment and permitted materials

Course with immanent character, written adaption of a learning environment, writing a paper based on the observations made, and reflection on the experiences gathered in the teaching experiment based on the literature discussed

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Awareness of the origin of inequities in physics and chemistry education and one’s own involvement in the problem
Studying data on theoretical perspectives of inequity in physics and chemistry lessons
Analysing the possibilities for teaching for equity in framing science lessons in the context of sustainability
Planning, conducting and evaluating a learning environment in the context of sustainability

Examination topics

Interactive course based on reading, discussing, doing scientific work (evaluation), adapting a learning environment, classroom observation and classroom experiment, evaluation of the learning environment
