Die Vorbesprechung findet am 15.10.2021 statt.
Die Lehrveranstaltung wird geblockt stattfinden. Die genauen Termine werden in der Vorbesprechung bekannt gegeben.
Die Lehrveranstaltung beinhaltet fünf einführende Vorlesungen. An vier Terminen werden Experimente in den Laboren vor Ort durchgeführt.
Also insgesamt 7 Terminen in der angekündigten Zeit und 4 Termine von 10:30-18:00 in den Labors.

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this lab course students deepen their knowledge and skills in the field of aerosol physics and carry out experiments with research equipment under supervision. The contents include a selection of measurement methods from the field of aerosol physics: condensation nucleus counter, differential mobility analyzer, optical spectrometer, pipe losses, impactor, deposition in the lung, formation of secondary aerosols or atmospheric optics.
The experiments have to be evaluated and a written report has to be drawn up. An independent presentation of one of the practical examples, supported by the experimental results, is an essential contribution to the final evaluation.

In this lab course students learn ...
- about the relevance of aerosols in the atmosphere
- physical principles of aerosol measurement techniques
- to arrange a measurement set-up
- to operate selected instruments
- to estimate measurement biases
- discussion and presentation of measuement results in a written form
- to give a short scientific presentation of one experiment

Note: It is recommended to choose this course only if the lecture 260010 VO "Aerosol Physics - Physics of Disperse Systems" or the module WPF 9 "Aerosol Physics" in the Bachelor Degree Physics at the University of Vienna has been completed.

Assessment and permitted materials

Continuous assessment course.

Practical course work, written protocols and final presentation.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirements:
- Compulsory attendance
- Understanding of the practical course work
- Hand in protocols on time
- Protocols and presentation are mandatory

Assessment criteria
- *Understanding of the experiments and physical principles: 10% of total points
- Written reports: 70% of total points
- Final presentation: 20% of total points

*At the beginning of each lab course the experiments and physical principles will be discussed. Students are also expected to answer questions regarding the experiments during the practical lab work and actively participate in discussions.
In order to attain a positive grade at least 50.00% of the total points must be achieved.

The grading key for assessment is:
Very good: 100.00% - 87.00%
Good: 86.99% - 75.00%
Satisfactory: 74.99% - 63.00%
Sufficient: 62.99% - 50.00%
Not sufficient: 49,99% - 0,00%
