Aims, contents and method of the course

Vector spaces with scalar product: Euclidean and unitary vector spaces, orthonormal systems and bases, hermitian and unitary maps, diagonalisation, Hilbert spaces, linear operators in Hilbert spaces

Partial differential equations: Linear partiell differential equations of first and second order, in particular Laplace/Poisson equation, Heat equation, Wave equation.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The assessment is based on the results of two tests and the homework problems,
which are to be uploaded via Moodle

- each or the 2 exams is graded with up to 10 points
- there will be weekly homeworks for which the students submit written solutions online in time. These homeworks are graded as 0 or 1, and provide 5(3x-1) points, where
x = (number of homeworks graded as 1)/(total number of homeworks)
(hence max, 10)

- each good presentation at the blackboard contributes up to 2 points.

To pass the course, at least one of the two tests must be positive (at least 5 points),
and a total of 16 points must be reached.

grades:

0-15 nicht genügend, 16-19 genügend, 20-23 befriedigend, 24-27 gut, 28-32+ sehr gut

Active participation is mandatory, and at most one class can be missed without excuse.
