Assessment and permitted materials

Written homework, , blackboard presentation two tests on the following dates:
02.05.2019, 13:15-14:45, Christian-Doppler-Hörsaal
13.06.2019, 13:15-14:45, Christian-Doppler-Hörsaal

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Acquiring basic skills in mathematical methods of physics.

The assessment is based on the results of two tests and written solutions to 11 problem sheets.

Each week, a problem sheet is provided with three core exercises, for which the students independently submit written solutions online in time. Every meaningful effort towards a solution counts one point. In addition one can obtain two extra points for a good blackboard presentation of an exercise (4 points in total in this way). On each sheet there is an extra problem whose solution can also be submitted and which counts an additional point if the solution is correct. An additional fifth training problem is only meant for practising, but does not give extra points. The course can only be passed if a student obtains at least 24 points in this way, but the precise number of points does not influence the final mark. Furthermore an active participation in the exercise classes is necessary (maximally two sessions can be missed without excuse). The lecturer can demand that submitted solutions are presented on the lackboard.

For the grading of the course there will be two written tests of 90 minutes. In each test one can obtain maximally 24 points, the maximal total number of points is therefore 48. If somebody cannot participate at one of the dates for an important reason (e.g. illness), he/she can repeat the exam at a third date. The final mark is computed from the following key:

At least 35 points: 1
At least 30 points: 2
At least 25 points: 3
At least 20 points: 4
Less than 20 points: 5
