Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the exercise classes is to support the learning on 260056 VO Advanced Materials (2023S) course and they form one unit with the former. The homework tasks will be distributed weekly via Moodle and are related to the topics covered in the lecture. All students must both upload their solutions, and cross the solved problems in the cross-list in moodle before the deadline at 14:00 on the day of the exercise class in order to get points for them. By crossing an exercise problem, one expresses his readiness to present the problem at the board. In case one isn't present at the class or isn’t able to tackle his problem and it is obvious the problem wasn’t solved; one loses all the points of the entire exercise unit. Please do not cross problems you have not actually solved and uploaded to moodle.

Unless the regulations suggest otherwise the class will be held in person.

Assessment and permitted materials

The PUE is an examination-immanent course and serves as preparation for the module examination. Registration for the PUE is not mandatory, but recommended. Note: With the registration for the PUE the participation is binding.
A consequence-free withdrawal from this course is possible until 31.03.2023 23:59.
Without exception, all students registered after this deadline may participate in the PUE and will be graded according to the PUE assessment criteria.
The grade of the PUE will NOT be included in the grade of the module examination.
The performance record required for the module (VO + PUE) is achieved by completing the module examination.

The grading consists of the following:

- uploaded solutions in moodle: 0.8 * p (where p is the percentage of awarded points for uploaded solutions. For example, 100% of solved exercises gives a total of the maximum attainable points, 80 points).
- 2 times presentation at the board: graded with max 10 points per presentation
In total, maximum of gained points is 80 + 2*10 = 100.

Grading:
From 87.5 Punkten: 1 (+1 increase in the grade of the final VO examination)*
From 75 Punkten: 2 (+1 increase in the grade of the final VO examination)*
From 62.5 Punkten: 3
From 50 Punkten: 4
Under 50 Punkten: 5 (Failing grade).

*Increase in the grade of the final VO examination takes place only for students attending the earliest scheduled exam after the lectures finish, and only if one doesn't fail the exam
Bonus points may be awarded for exceptionally good presentations (or extra presentations).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The minimum requirements to pass the exercise class are to get at least 60% of the points awarded for the uploaded solutions in moodle, and to successfully present 2 times at the board.

Absence is allowed three times (or more, given one can present valid reasoning). An email informing about the absence must be sent before the exercise class, otherwise one does not get any points for the unit. If an email was sent, one can give in his solutions for grading before the class, or even after, depending on the agreement with the tutor.
