Assessment and permitted materials

The individual programs must be uploaded in MOODLE latest on MO 4:00 AM before the forthcoming "Abgabetermine" (every second week).
The lecturer will perform a plagiarism check. The accepted programs that pass this check will
receive by default an initial grade of 4 points. We underline that the programs that have been simply copied and that have not successfully passed the plagiarism-check will be grade with 0 points. In particularly unpleasant situations the following instruction by the Studienpurses will be applied: ”Wenn eine Teilleistung innerhalb einer PI-LV iSd § 8 studienrechtlicher Teil der Satzung der Universität Wien durch Schummeln (z.B.
During the presentation hours some of the students that have uploaded their program in moodle
will be selected to present and discuss their solution. Depending on this presentation the initial grade will be either confirmed or reduced. During the exercise hours the students will have an ongoing consultation concerning their programs by the lecturer as well as by the teaching assistant (tutor). Attendance is compulsory. In order to successfully complete the course at least half of the issued exercises need to be positively evaluated and half of the total points need be obtained.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In the course of the exercises, the students should learn to solve simple problems and apply basic algorithms with the help of Fortran 90 (F90)

Examination topics

The students have to apply the concepts and methods from the lecture to solve simple problems with F90.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Nowadays, since computer simulations form an integral part of almost every branch of research, numerical programming is a prerequisite for the efficiency and success of such methods. In this lecture, the basics for problem analysis, development of efficient algorithms and implementation in computer codes are presented. The programming itself is done in Fortran90, a procedural, modular programming language that is widely used in the scientific community. The basics of this language are taught in the lecture and applied during the practical course.
