Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Based on Experimental Physics I and II. Fundamentals of quantum optics and quantum mechanics, atomic and nuclear physics on a phenomenological basis with an outlook to elementary particles.
Assessment and permitted materials
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Understanding of the failure of classical physics (continuous spectrum of hot bodies, line spectrum of hot gases, photo effect, Compton effect) and the solution by quantum physics; the hydrogen atom and its quantum numbers, and the connection to the periodic system; fundamental knowledge on the physics of isotopes and nuclear physics, dosimetry; short outlook on elementary particles, the standard model and cosmology.
Examination topics
Oral lecture (blackboard) with additional electronic media (transparencies and ppt presentation) and possibility for interaction with the students.
