Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Goals: This course should support the networking between students and gives room for discussion of topical concerns.
This course is part of the faculty's action plan for women and work. The goal of this plan is to counteract gender segregation in academic studies and research. The long term goal is to raise the quota of women in the Bachelor als well as Master and PhD studies.

Topics:
Scientific gender studies and scientific studies on equal opportunities for women in science; classical gender stereotypes in physics; the movie "Picture a Scientist"; realistic role models and various job opportunities for female physicists; the Imposter syndrome; Female empowerment strategies and soft-skills

Methods:
„Flipped Classroom“ concept, i.e., the students have to prepare themselves before the class by the means of homework assignments. Their results/insights will be discussed in the class.

Assessment and permitted materials

Das Seminar ist eine prüfungsimmanente Lehrveranstaltung. Das bedeutet, dass die Note aus mehreren Teilleistungen ermittelt wird.

Es werden folgende Teilleistungen ermittelt:
• aktive Mitarbeit in den Diskussions- und Lerngruppen 50%
• Bearbeiten der Hausaufgaben (individuelle Teilleistungen) 50%

Zur positiven Beurteilung sind mindestens 50% bei jeder Teilleistung erforderlich.

Anwesenheit ist Voraussetzung für die Beurteilung.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To achieve a positive final grade, 50% of each item of work is required.
