Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Research in acoustics needs a blend of different techniques from various scientific areas like physics, mathematics, phonology and even psychology. In this course, students will work on practical problems within the broad field of acoustics ranging from sound generation to perception.Potential topics will include generation of sound fields with spherical loudspeaker arrays, acoustical measurements for system identification, simulations of the human vocal tract and the wave propagation around human morphologies and noise barriers, inverse problems in room acoustics, as well as virtual acoustics and auditory illusions via headphone presentation. After a short introduction to the basics of acoustics and potential topics, students will select their individual problem, work on it autonomously (under close supervision), and finally document and present their results to their colleagues.
