7.00 ECTS (4.00 SWS), SPL 26 - Physik
Continuous assessment of course work

Note: The time of your registration within the registration period has no effect on the allocation of places (no first come, first serve).

max. 16 participants
Language: English

Block: 08.-12.02.2021

Aims, contents and method of the course

Characterization of optical elements – experimental statistics of various states of light – experimental characterization of the quantum nature of light – quantum randomness – polarization states – observation of wave properties as well as particle behavior – interaction-free measurements – coherence length – laser and optical cavities or alternatively atom spectroscopy.

Die insights and content of this course will be made accessible via experiments. Each experimental group has a limit of up to 4 students and will require 1 week of full-time work.

Assessment and permitted materials

The course will be assessed via a verbal test of the theoretical background for each experiment, as well as by two proper protocols per student.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

It is advantageous to know the content of these courses:
Introduction to Physics III
LP Lab-Course: Classical and Quantum Optics
WPF3 Quantum Information

Also, it is mandatory to pass the online safety-test for working in the laboratory.

The individual contributions are weighted with 1/3 for the questioning the theory knowledge and 2/3 for the protocols. For an overall positive evaluation it is mandatory to be present and to hand in the two protocols within the mentioned deadline.
