Assessment and permitted materials
At the beginning of each exercise unit, you will be requested to sign the list of participants and to indicate the problems you have solved at home. You might be called to the blackboard to present any of your prepared homework problems. An absolutely correct and complete solution as well as a clear presentation will be expected. The students are encouraged to participate actively in discussions. In principle, presence in the exercise class is compulsory, however, absence in two units will be tolerated. There will be two written tests (90 minutes each) in the middle and at the end of the semester. One handwritten DIN A4 sheet with useful formulae is allowed during the test. Dates of the tests: 24.11.2017 and 26.01.2018, 9:00-10:30, Ludwig-Boltzmann-HS.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
For a successful accomplishment of the course, all of the following minimal criteria must be fulfilled: presence in all exercise units is compulsory ( absence in two exercise units will be tolerated), at least 50 % of the problems covered during the semester must be solved, at least one presentation at the blackboard is required, at least 50% of the total number of points must be obtained (each of the two tests contributes 35% and the performance in class adds 30% to the total number of points).Grading:
Once the minimal criteria are fulfilled, the following grading scale applies:
Less than 50% of the total of points: not sufficient
At least 50% but less than 65%: sufficient
At least 65% but less than 80%: satisfactory
At least 80% but less than 90%: good
At least 90%: very good

Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Aims and contents: Achieving the ability to solve simple problems in electrodynamics and special relativity.Method: Self-reliant homework on exercise problems related to topics covered in the lecture. The exercises constitute an inseparable part of the course! The homework problems can be found at particle.univie.ac.at -> Studies -> WS 2017. The participants present their well prepared solutions at the blackboard and are facing a scientific discussion.
Examination topics
Problems according to the exercise sheets.
Test in the middle of the semester: all problems treated until this time.
Test at the end of the semester: all problems treated from the middle of the semester on.
Test in the middle of the semester: all problems treated until this time.
