Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture course showcases the research pursued at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Vienna. The faculty members will provide an introduction into the scientific background, the research questions and methods of the field, as well as into recent results of their research groups. The language of communication is German and/or English.

Assessment and permitted materials

A group of 3-5 students will choose a research group to be presented, and will moderate the presentation of an external speaker at the seminar. This will include getting familiar with the research directions and methods of the chosen group before the seminar (for example, through an interview with the speaker or through reading popular articles of the respective group), a brief introduction of the speaker at the beginning of the talk, as well as the preparation of the questions to be posed to the speaker at the end of the talk, and engagement in the subsequent discussion.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Requirement for a positive grade: successful accomplishment of the preparation and moderation of the seminar.

Examination topics

The basic physical concepts and research methods in the respective research areas of the speakers.

Reading list

Will/might be suggested by the speakers in interaction with them during the preparation for the seminar.
