Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Biological solutions usually are inventive and often off-beat. Many examples will be discussed and the physical background will be elaborated. the following topics will be treated: heat exchngers (in biology and technology).
Eyes: with lenses or compound eye?? what is better??
How do insetcs and birds fly??
Bio-electricity: Nerve cells, action potential, synapses.
Heat: condiction, readiation, convection, heat balance and survival
Blood flow: Heart, blood vessels, capillaries.
Scaling: Why doe smaller animals have a shorter life, but still can run as fast as larger animals? Why do not exist mammals, having a size of insects?
Solar radiation im plants and animals, photosynthesis.
