Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The aim of the course is to obtain an understanding of classical and quantum properties of light via solving related exercises.Topics include: review of classical optics; polarization; lasers and cavities; interferometry; photon statistics; nonclassical states of light; linear and nonlinear optics;
Assessment and permitted materials
The exercises (PUE) are a continuous assessment course intended as preparation for the module exam. Registration for the PUE is not mandatory but recommended. Note: Participation in the PUE is only possible with a valid registration for the course. Upon registration, attendance is obligatory. All registered students will be graded according to the PUE assessment criteria. The PUE grade does NOT affect the module exam grade.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The grade for the PUE is determined from:1) Points achieved in a written exam towards the end of the semester, which serves as preparation for the module exam (1.5h, max. 50 points).2) Points achieved in the continuous evaluation of homework (moodle based) (max. 50 points).For positive evaluation, at least 25 points have to be achieved in each of the two criteria mentioned above. If that is the case, the final grade will be determined from the sum of the points as:50-62 Points: Genügend
63-74 Points: Befriedigend
75-86 Points: Gut
87-100 Points: Sehr Gut
