Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Macroscopic and atomistic description of solid-state diffusion, Kirkendall-effect, thermodynamic factor, nucleation and growth, coarsening, spinodal decomposition, short-range order and long-range order, diffusion in ordered alloys.
Assessment and permitted materials
Oral examination
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Acquirement of further fundamental knowledge on metals and alloys: diffusion and atom jump mechanisms, their coupling to lattice defects and the application to processes of decomposition and ordering. In this way, the basis for solid state physics and materials physics is considerably extended.
Examination topics
Oral lecture (blackboard) with additional electronic media (transparencies and ppt presentation) and possibility for interaction with the students (lecture notes).
