Aims, contents and method of the course

Physical-technical basis of power generation: Fossile, water, wind, solar, import. Percentages, efficiencies, costs of production. Availabilities (diurnal, annual). Storage. Damage and risks: CO2-emission of caloric power plants, dams, nuclear power plants in neighbour countries, "atomstromfrei" and ecofriendly - reality or illusion? CO2-certificates. Electro mobility. Economies: heating, public transport, cycling.
Being a solid state physicist and materials scientist I will give special attention to materials of energy technique (solar cells, turbine blades, storage materials).

Some lectures will be given by external experts:
DI Dr.Allmer, Leiter Donau-Kraftwerke,
DI Dr.Tuppinger, Leiter OMV Raffinerie Schwechat,
DI Flucher, Vorstandsmitglied IG Wind,
Mag.Dr.Rennhofer, Austrian Inst.Technology, Photovoltaik

Assessment and permitted materials

Discussion after end of lectures

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Ability to check independently politicians' "Energie-Wende" promises.
Is Austria's electrical autarky based fully on "renewables" in near future possible and - beyond that - is it desirable from a European perspective?
